Know all men by these presents that I William B Gillum of the county of Albemarle and sate of Virginia do make and ordain this my las Will and Testament.
First I recommend my soul to the Almighty, God who gave it and my body t my mother earth trusting in hope that through the merit of my great Redeemer he will receive my soul unto everlasting Bliss. Thereto join in praising ad adoring his glorious name ever world without end Amen.
Item: My desire is that all my just debts should be paid out of the first money arising from collection of all my claims
Item Further my desire is that my beloved mother shall receive on hundred dollars in cash, for her own use, also to have the use of my Negro man Mephen [sic], girl Eliza and my interest in a negro woman Rose, during her life and after her death to descend to my two sisters hereafter named
Item further my desire is that my brother John P. Gillum shall have my watch, saddle, ad fifty dollars in cash for h is own used and benefit.
Item further my desire is that my two sisters Elizabeth A. Gillum and Mary T. Gillum shall have the whole of the remainder of my estate consisting of my negroes, to wit: one woman named Louisa, four children viz: Charlotte, Lewis, Agusta [sic] and Henry, feather beds and also the balance of my money, after paying as above requested, and after the death of my mother, to have the negroes that I gave her during life to be equally divided between them.
Lastly, I do appoint my two sisters Elizabeth A. Gillum and Mary T. Gillum executrix to this my last will and Testament, in Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th day of December 1839.

At a Court held for Albemarle County 1st June 1840, this last will and testament of William Gillum deceased was produced unto court and proved by the oaths of G. W. Kinsolving and Ann B. Kinsolving and P. G. Gillum three of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.

[The Witnesses at signing are P. W. Kinsolving and A. R. Kinsolving. However, at recording P. W. has become G. W. Kinsolving and A. R. has become Ann B. Kinsolving. A G. W. Kinsolving appears in the 1840 Albemarle Census. It appears that the witnesses are George Washington Kinsolving and Ann R. Barksdale, his wife. Witness P. G. Gillum is William B's cousin, Dr. Pleasant G. Gillum]
