On this 4th day of February 18 three personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace within and for the County of Wilkes in the State aforesaid John Martin and James Martin respectable and disinterested witnesses who being duly sworn state that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of marriage record kept by William & Mary GILLUM his wife of the ages of their Children, taken from the original.

State of North Carolina, County of Wilkes
On this 4th day of February 1853 personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace within and for the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina John Martin 66 years [of age] a resident of this County of Wilkes who after being duly sworn according to law states that he was acquainted with William GILLUM and Mary GILLUM of said County for many years before their deaths, that the said William died on the 17th day of August 1831 and that said Mary GILLUM died on the 22nd day of August 1840, and that the said William & Mary GILLUM, from the time he became acquainted with them, which was about 1800, the said William & Mary GILLUM lived together as man and wife and
was so reputed by the Citizens in his Neighborhood where the live.
He further states that the said William GILLUM was reputed to have performed considerable services as a soldier of the War of the Revolution, he has often heard the said William GILLUM speak of the services he rendered to his Country as a soldier, during the Revolutionary War, and he the said GILLUM some few years before his death Exhibited to him two discharges for a part of his services, one for a six months Tour and one for a three months tour, which the said GILLUM as he understood placed in the possession of one Elza Missick which are now lost or mislaid so that the children of said William & Mary cannot procure them, he further states that Lucy GILLUM, Sally GILLUM and Thomas GILLUM
children of the said William & Mary are dead and he has good reasons to believe that John GILLUM son of said William & Mary is dead and that William GILLUM, and Richard GILLUM and Elizabeth Johnson are the only surviving children of the said William & Mary GILLUM, and that Elizabeth Johnson who is now making application for the amount of pension due the surviving children of the said William & Mary GILLUM deceased under the several acts & resolutions of Congress, is one of the heirs at law of the said William & Mary deceased.
