Deed: George Carrington to James GILLIAM

This indenture made the twenty third day of April in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine

Between George Carrington of the county of Cumberland of the one part and James GILLIAM of the same county of the other part

Witnesseth that the said George Carrington for and in consideration of the sum of seventy four pounds, four shillings current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said James GILLIAM, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained, and sold land by these presents doth grant, bargain, and sell unto the said James GILLIAM and to his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land and situate lying and being in the County of Cumberland aforesaid containing by estimation three hundred and seventy one acres, be the same more or less and bounded as followeth to wit:

Southwardly by the said George Carrington,
Westwardly by the said Carrington, David Prior and William Rowland
Northwardly by John Prior and Samuel Taylor and
Eastwardly by the said Samuel Taylor which said tract or parcel of land is part of a larger tract containing five thousand six hundred and fifty acres by patent bearing date the twenty sixth day of July one thousand seven hundred and fifty five granted to the said George Carrington
And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders, rents, issues, and profits thereof and all the estate, rights, title, interest, claim, and demand whatsoever of him the said George Carrington of, in, and to the same, or any part thereof
To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned or intended to be hereby bargained and sold with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said James GILLIAM his heirs and assignees forever.
To the only proper use behoof of him the said James GILLIAM his heirs and assignees forever and the said George Carrington for himself and his heirs doth covenant, promise, grant, and agree to and with the said James GILLIAM his heirs and assignees that he the said George Carrington and his heirs all and singular the said premises and every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said James GILLIAM his heirs ands assign forever shall and will warrant and forever defend against him the said George Carrington and his heirs and all and every other person and persons whatsoever
