Overview
James Gilliam, Sr., left a Will in Cumberland dated 24 Oct 1774 naming as his Executors his son, James Gilliam, Jr., and son in law Joseph Taylor. Among the Credits and debits are numerous relatives: Woodsons, Carringtons, Dillons and Wikinsons. Also, mentioned is a note for "insolvent" David Haley. Gilliam sold to Haley the tract of land along Bowing Creek in Pittsylvania. Later a Suit was filed by James' heirs against Executor Joseph Taylor.

In obedience to an order of the Worshipful court of Cumberland, we the subscribers have this 6th day of October 1798 examined, stated and settled the within account of Joseph Taylor against James Gilliam deceased and from the vouchers to us produced are of opinion that the within balance of Five pound eighteen shillings and four pence is justly due from the said Joseph Taylor to the aforesaid James Gilliam decd
