Background:
According to the 1900 Cumberland County, VA Census Robert was born May 1865 in Virginia and was living In Randolph with wife Lucy, born Feb 1868 and children:
Leake Gilliam, age 8
Uriah Gilliam, age 7
Henry Gilliam, age 5
Kira Gilliam, age 2 and
Linwood Gilliam, age 1
Robert and Lucy were living adjacent to Benjamin Gilliam and Ann. It appears the Robert and Benjamin are brothers and that Ann is their mother. Ann is listed as “mother.”
Ann was born in Feb 1840 and Benjamin in May 1870.

To wit
Considering the certainty of death and not knowing when it may come I Robert Gilliam of the county of Cumberland, State of Virginia do make this my last Will and Testament which revokes all others heretofore made up to this date, it is this that after my decease or death that I after my burial expenses are paid I give unto Albert Gilliam, Sr., my brother and his wife Polly Gilliam all of my real estate owned by me and lying and being in the county of Buckingham and in the state of Virginia also, any rents or profits due on the real estate composed of forty acres of land more or less being and being near Curdsville with its appurtenances included to Albert Gilliam, Sr., and Poly Gilliam, his wife, all of which is given in fee simple right to do as they please with and I also do appoint A. B. Armstrong as my executor and do requests that the court that this Will is recorded in shall not require him to give any security for acting as executor, given under my hand and seal on this 3rd day of June 1900.

The Last Will and Testament of Robert Gilliam decd was this day produced in Court and proved by the oaths of H. A. Blayton and C. W. Flippen subscribing witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded and A. B. Armstrong the executor therein named having appeared in court and refused to take upon himself the burden of the execution thereof on motion it is ordered that the estate of Robert Gilliam decd be and the same is hereby committed to the ands of H. K. Adams Sheriff of Cumberland County, VA of administration according to law with the said Will annexed in due form.
