Overview:
Archelaus Gilliam, son of William Gilliam and Mary Jarratt, his wife was born, according to his pension application, on the Tye River about 1756. On 15 Dec 1781, he married Judith Tuley/Tooley, the daughter of James Tuley and Judith Witt. His obituary states that died Oct 22, 1836, in Amherst County, that he joined the Revolution at its commencement and was engaged in thirteen different conflicts, and aided in most of the severe engagements, including those of Saratoga, Princeton, and Monmouth. Archelaus is variously referred to as Arabald Gilliam, Azeker Gilliam, Azeker Gilliam, and Archer Gilliam. The constant presence of George Damron (Dameron) suggests that each of the above is the same Gilliam.
